Brand shoot or Styled shoot? 📸 Which one is right for you.

Well, in short, it’s a photoshoot that’s all about you. The maker. The designer. The creative. The flower lover.

You get to be the star of the show.

Now before you run away as fast as you can, I wanna give you four reasons why they’re worth investing in.

  1. It’s your vision, your brain child. You get to control the show.
  2. It’s about you + your flower story. Investing in a brand shoot is one of the best ways to get comfortable telling your own design story and putting your face out into the world. And that means you’ll leapfrog your competition.
  3. Way cheaper than a styled shoot. Particularly when you take into account that you really do not need much in the way of flowers + product. No need to be makin’ large scale installations or arbours.
  4. It’s about you the maker, the designer. The hands-on work and work-in-progress photos are what it’s all about. Wanna hear the best news? You don’t even need to like what you make on the day – it’s not about the end result, it’s about the pieces of the puzzle and demonstrating to your customers that this flower magic we do is a service, requires expertise, skill and know-how.

But to be successful I want you to think about “packages” a bit differently compared to the traditional, old-school definition: a set list of bouquets + buttonholes offered at a discount.

What you’re really selling is SIMPLICITY and EASE:

  • Your designs, no customisation
  • Chosen from a simple, a la carte menu with just a few colour palettes
  • Ordered online — no consultation, no intense Q&A

How to Instagram with confidence 😍

A confession: I used to hate Instagram.

H.A.T.E.

The doubt, the comparison, the utter demoralisation was for-REAL.

I also held this assumption that more followers = more business.

But today I view and use Instagram totally differently. In this podcast I walk you through my top 5 “ah-ha” moments that will change how you approach Instagram forever:

  1. It’s not about your follower count. Can I let you in on a little secret? Making money as a floral designer has nothing to do with your follower count. I’m not kidding.
  2. So if it’s not about followers, what is it about? Hashtags. Creating a clear hashtag strategy IS the secret to gettin’ found by customers.
  3. What do I post? Shift your focus and put all your energy into helping your customers. Your next post is about your next customer, not about those people who follow you today. They’re not gunna buy.
  4. Expand your feed beyond flowers. Yep. I hereby grant you permission to be a floral designer who doesn’t post photos of flowers every day. It works.
  5. Dream bigger. If you keep posting the same kind of work, you’ll be asked to continue doing that exact same kind of work.

Navigating uncertainty 🤔

This whole COVID experience right now is the cause of a lot of uncertainty.

But uncertainty has always been there, it’s simply just magnified.

We’re used to a sense of ‘normalcy’ in our routine — the flower supply, wholesale prices, customer behaviour, family life, travel life etc.

But the reality is, we never had control over any of this anyway. We were just lulled into a false sense of security

COVID isn’t the cause of you feeling uncertain. It’s your thinking about COVID that is causing your feeling of uncertainty:

  • I don’t know when it’s all going to return to ‘normal’?
  • I want to go back to the way things were
  • When will flower prices go back down?
  • When will I start receiving inquiries for $10,000 weddings again?
  • When this, when that…

So what CAN you control? You can control what you decide to do next.

Here’s the thing, wishing things would simply ‘go back to normal’ is a useless exercise.

Instead, I want you to use this opportunity to evolve your business into the business you’ve always wanted to run.

Want to jump into doing everyday flower deliveries? Decide to make it happen. Now.

Want to offer wedding packages and designs for smaller, micro weddings? Do it.

Whatever your ideal version of a business looks like, now is the time to take action and make it happen.

Peoples!

Talkin’ about about pricing – cause I love it so much.

But we’re also being confronted with our greatest deepest darkest fears: wholesale prices have almost doubled as a direct result of COVID.

The simple fact that we are being pushed to raise our prices further, is gunna make you feel uncomfortable. That’s OK.

Fun fact: it’s possible that your perspective around pricing and not feeling like you can charge ‘that much’ is holding you back from building the business you’ve always wanted to have.

Today, we’re going to unpack that whole scenario and talk about a better way to approach what’s happening.
