How Do You Manage Your Mindset as a Floral Designer?

In this week’s podcast, I’m sharing with you a special training I did with my private #ForFlorists members.

This training is dedicated 100% to managing your mindset.

I hear from so many floral designers + business owners about just how important managing your mindset is…but of course so many are also asking me “How do you better manage your mindset?”

This week’s podcast episode goes into detail and gives you one of my favourite exercises, encouraging you to focus more on the future.

It’s so common that we look to our past to provide us with evidence of what’s possible in the future.

But it doesn’t work.

Check out this week’s episode to learn more and begin to conquer your own mindset.

Do you LOVE your business? 💖

Do you LOVE your business?

This seems like such a simple question, doesn’t it?

In today’s episode we talk about how to go about forging a positive relationship with your business (yes, you heard me right, relationship).

Things we cover:

  1. Your business is a separate entity from you
  2. It’s your baby, provide it with unconditional love
  3. You need to nurture, invest, feed, provide for, and support your baby
  4. You have TWO very different relationships with your business
    1. As the visionary / CEO who sets the course and makes decisions
    2. As the employee – the person person making and delivering the flowers
  5. Become aware of the two jobs in front of you and learn to adopt and switch between each one.

Finding your florist community 😍

Hello beautiful flower peeps!

Taking the plunge and being the owners of a bizniz is a thing.

It’s like you’ve just had a baby. You are responsible for its existence, feeding it, keeping it alive, paying attention to it, planning for its future, making decisions that will impact it down the road.

Any of this sound familiar?

Here’s the thing though — trying to white knuckle it and do it all on your own is HARD.

Our industry is obsessed with beauty and the final design, but it often ignores that fact that business is hard.

In today’s episode I share the best way to manage that feeling of “alone-ness” so jump in and listen.

Florist competition. How much should I worry? 🤷🏽‍♀️

Have you ever thought one of these?

  • I need to compete on price
  • How do I stand apart?
  • Is there room for me?
  • I’m worried about copy cat designers

The reality is, competition is a good thing. It keeps you on your toes and provides your customers with options.

Being aware of what your competition is doing is smart. BUT, obsessing over what they’re doing is dangerous and unhelpful.

Listen in to today’s podcast where I talk about the best way to manage your mindset around competition.

In a nutshell: the more helpful you are, the more money you’ll make (note: I don’t say “the lower your prices, the more money you’ll make”).

Brand shoot or Styled shoot? 📸 Which one is right for you.

In this week’s podcast episode, I’m passing along my best tips for organising a brand shoot.

Not sure what a brand shoot is all about?

Well, in short, it’s a photoshoot that’s all about you. The maker. The designer. The creative. The flower lover.

You get to be the star of the show.

Now before you run away as fast as you can, I wanna give you four reasons why they’re worth investing in.

  1. It’s your vision, your brain child. You get to control the show.
  2. It’s about you + your flower story. Investing in a brand shoot is one of the best ways to get comfortable telling your own design story and putting your face out into the world. And that means you’ll leapfrog your competition.
  3. Way cheaper than a styled shoot. Particularly when you take into account that you really do not need much in the way of flowers + product. No need to be makin’ large scale installations or arbours.
  4. It’s about you the maker, the designer. The hands-on work and work-in-progress photos are what it’s all about. Wanna hear the best news? You don’t even need to like what you make on the day – it’s not about the end result, it’s about the pieces of the puzzle and demonstrating to your customers that this flower magic we do is a service, requires expertise, skill and know-how.

Listen in to this week’s podcast episode so you can hear all about how to navigate and coordinate your own brand shoot and get my five watch-outs every floral designer needs to know before they jump in.

In actual fact, it’s an entirely different business, different priorities, different pricing model and different marketing must-haves.

On this week’s podcast, I’m giving you my five top tips for setting yourself up for success when you’re focused on everyday flowers.

Creativity + Profit = Wedding Packages. For reals? 🙊

With today’s focus on smaller, more intimate wedding celebrations, offering packages is a really good idea.

But to be successful I want you to think about “packages” a bit differently compared to the traditional, old-school definition: a set list of bouquets + buttonholes offered at a discount.

What you’re really selling is SIMPLICITY and EASE:

  • Your designs, no customisation
  • Chosen from a simple, a la carte menu with just a few colour palettes
  • Ordered online — no consultation, no intense Q&A

How to Instagram with confidence 😍

A confession: I used to hate Instagram.

H.A.T.E.

The doubt, the comparison, the utter demoralisation was for-REAL.

I also held this assumption that more followers = more business.

But today I view and use Instagram totally differently. In this podcast I walk you through my top 5 “ah-ha” moments that will change how you approach Instagram forever:

  1. It’s not about your follower count. Can I let you in on a little secret? Making money as a floral designer has nothing to do with your follower count. I’m not kidding.
  2. So if it’s not about followers, what is it about? Hashtags. Creating a clear hashtag strategy IS the secret to gettin’ found by customers.
  3. What do I post? Shift your focus and put all your energy into helping your customers. Your next post is about your next customer, not about those people who follow you today. They’re not gunna buy.
  4. Expand your feed beyond flowers. Yep. I hereby grant you permission to be a floral designer who doesn’t post photos of flowers every day. It works.
  5. Dream bigger. If you keep posting the same kind of work, you’ll be asked to continue doing that exact same kind of work.
