⚾️ A few months ago I was watching a baseball

⚾️ A few months ago I was watching a baseball game.

Now, I am not the biggest sports fan on the planet but Sloan is.

It was the end of summer and he was watching one of the playoff games and this revelation truly shook me to my core.

The announcer dude was talking about the guy at bat and his top-notch batching average.

I was shook.

To the core.

Because he was talking about having a 0.3 batting average.

And they were talking about this percentage like it was exceptional (which it is in the world of baseball).

But all of a sudden I was realising, WAIT A MINUTE PEOPLES.

Are you telling me that these fellas walk up to bat knowing they’re only going to be successful 3 out of 10 times?

That 7 out of 10 times they’re going to FAIL?!?!?!

Meanwhile, you and I are like “I tried something once. It didn’t work the way I expected it might.”

And then we make it mean something about ourselves and it using ends with ‘This dream mustn’t be for me.’

Oi.

How’s about we normalise the fact that most of what we attempt isn’t going to work the first time?

It’s NOT normal to walk up to the plate and hit a home run on the first attempt.

Even Babe Ruth with his 0.342 batting average managed to hit 714 home runs (thanks Google!).

It’s OK if your first attempt didn’t work.

You’re in this for the long run.

I think you should keep going, just to see what happens.

...look at how many followers she has
...look at how much your clients love her work
...I wish I got to create work like that
...I wish my clients would come to me with that kind of budget

The thing that got me OUT of the constant comparison was deciding to lean INTO the moments of envy + jealousy.

I know it sounds so counter-intuitive, but it’s been an incredible shortcut for creating my dream business.

😆 I’ve got the best solution ever!

Despite what you might see on the Interwebs, I am not a ‘naturally gifted sales person’.

In fact, I’m an EXTREME introvert.

✨E X T R E M E ✨

After I spent a full YEAR doing fancy consults and felt utterly totally exhausted by the experience...

...oh yeah and my close rate was SH*T...

I realised I had to find a better way.

So, I just hit ‘reset’ on my entire sales process and asked myself:

👉 What would it look like if it was easy?

Hands down, for me, it was getting rid of the hour-long consults and deciding I’m gonna use my social media content + website + handful of templates to set up a system that prioritises speed of response, makes it easy for my clients to find the information they need and allowed the whole thing to run wayyyyyy more on ‘copy + paste’.

It was amazingly empowering to just decide I was gonna NOT do what all the other florists do and create a sales process that allowed me to be ME, leaned into my strengths and radically increased my close rate.

Remember, if your sales process isn’t working, you don’t need permission from anyone to change it.

This is your business. You get to set the rules.

🤪 If you’ve been hanging ‘round my corner of the interwebs for more than a minute, you’ll know that I’m a huge fan of sharing the lessons I’ve made from my mistakes.

And yeah, I’ve made SO many mistakes.

At this point, it’s probably THOUSANDS.

But I’m happy to be the florist who actually talks about and shares what I’ve learned from those mistakes so that you don’t have to keep struggling alone.

Because I know that’s one of the biggest reasons I stayed stuck for SO LONG.

The secrecy and hush hush of our industry is WHY so many florists aren’t earning enough money (even if on social media it all looks like rainbows + daisies).

One of the BIGGEST mistakes I made was HIDING.

I felt like such a fraud and such an imposter...

...so I had NO personal connection with my customers.

My customers didn’t know me. Heck they didn’t even know there were real life people hiding behind this business...

And without any sort of personal connection or real-life human showing up, I kept getting inundated with low-value orders and budget brides.

Everything changed when I stepped out from behind the curtain and started showing up on my website and showing the real HUMAN in the business.

It led to higher quality enquiries and more orders, which ultimately led to more revenue. 🎉

So here’s your homework for today:
1️⃣ take a selfie
2️⃣ share it on your stories
3️⃣ tag me so we can embrace the ‘OMFG this is SO AWKWARD’ experience together

Your future self will be so grateful you did it and took the leap. I promise!!!

💕 I used to believe there would be a time when I wouldn’t feel afraid.

As if I’d wake up one day and SHAZAM confidence is at 100% all the time.

But, that’s just not the way entrepreneurship works.

The doubt is real.
The fear is constantly bubbly under the surface.
The second-guessing.
The hesitation.
The uncertainty.

Maybe this idea isn’t so good after all...
Maybe nobody is going to buy the thing...
Maybe the $$$$ I invested won’t pay off...

...But

Maybe it will?

You never know until you try.

And in reality, you’re actually no worse off if it doesn’t go as planned.

Nobody is buying the thing right now anyway, cause nobody knows about it. 😂

You putting your awesome idea out into the world – whether it’s a workshop, a course, a podcast, or a mentorship program – you keeping it hidden, tucked away in your mind’s eye, ISN’T helping you move forward.

Launch the thing.
Share the idea.
Get it out there.
